5. Dos and Don’ts – rules of conduct


Wear the appropriate protective eyewear

Only persons directly involved in the experiment are present in the laser room

The laser experiments are to be conducted in such a way that every potential hazard to persons through direct, reflected or scattered laser radiation is avoided.

Use beam stoppers (e.g. “Strahlstop”, black anodized aluminium plates)

Never wear jewelry or watches in the Class 3 and 4 areas

Provide ample and effective lighting

Wear a lab coat and when required also gloves

Warn all persons present before switching a laser on

Never put or hold any object in the laser beam

Never look directly into the laser beam (this includes laser pointers)

Never bring your eyes to the same level as the laser beam

Never open the protective housing around a laser that is switched on

Never put combustible materials near a laser beam
